Human, societal and animal welfare and environmental care have traditionally been seen as distinct disciplines. The benefit of breaking down these disciplinary silos is that more effective and comprehensive strategies can be developed to tackle the problems which affect us all – and this is the aim of ‘One Welfare’.
Approaching animal welfare and the ethics which govern our treatment of animals through this broader and inter-disciplinary lens can only enhance and improve practice, and help veterinarians act for the benefit of humans and nonhumans alike.
Content on this portal is structured around eight themes. There are two overarching themes – Animal Welfare Science and Animal Ethics, and six other themes devoted to animals used in different contexts.
